9 - Sugar Mama

Genre: Reggae/ Funk/ Rock
Location: NYC
Website: www.myspace.com/sugarmamarock

Bio: Sugar Mama provides the groove. With influences ranging from Sublime, to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Jimi Hendrix, this band can't go wrong. Their catchy tunes include trippy escapades to psychedelia that always return back to the source. Their infallible experiments with form are exquisitely delicious. For a trio, these guys create a sound much greater than the sum of its parts. The intricate guitar work of Kyle Lalone locks in with Dan Africano's counterpuntal bass grooves, and their voices dance together like nymphs in an evergreen forest on a dewey Autumn morn. Don't forget Joshua Steingard's killer funk- train drum stylings (dumps like a truck!). The dictionary says that stylings isn't a word. Fuck the dictionary! Sugar mama equals stylings, many stylings, tasty stylings and wild stylings!

With a new album in the works, these guys are hard at it killing shows across the Northeast! Look out for these bros on college radio in the near future! After a sensual meeting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA this group formed in 2008 and has been jammin to the max ever since. If you're in the city lookin for a good time make sure you hit up Sugar Mama for her salted morsels of carmelized crunknicity. If you're a fan of Rage Against the Machine, Queens of the Stoneage, RX Bandits, Sublime, or The Peppers give them a listen! Their myspace contains a library of un-discovered ancient alien architecture. They are the Wise-men from the Northeast on a journey to quench your thirsty ear-pussies!

8 - Therapy

Genre: Funk/ Neo-Soul/ R&B/ Jazz
Location: Auburn, AL
Website: www.myspace.com/t6music

Bio: Therapy have become legends of Funk and Soul in Southeast. While they focus on original music, their live show consists of many classic throwbacks from the golden age of soul and r&b. Their covers range from Chaka Khan to Stevie Wonder to Michael Jackson. Their original sound shines through with songs like "You Need Therapy," "Frogs," and "I Think I'm In Love." Check out their myspace for more! They are currently working on a new album of original material that will hopefully be out soon. Having won several battle of the bands and competitions in the Southeast they continue to rock shows at clubs, bars, parties and festivals as well.

Erika, Nikita and Rodney have soulful voices and harmonies that bring back the feeling of classic vocal groups such as Rufus, Earth Wind and Fire, and the Isley Brothers. They pull out tunes that are currently on the charts as well. If Therapy comes to your town, you definitely got to go see them, they put on an amazing show. Therapy coalesces into raw sexy funk reminiscent of Funk goddess Betty Davis with Nikita's powerful voice. When put together with Erika and Rodney, their intertwining vocal melodies create an atmosphere of classic jazz, neo-soul, and hip hop. The Rhythm section is killer with two drummers, Al "The Body" Body, and Steve "The Shark" Lawson that switch it up between percussion and trap set. They lock it in with Seth on bass to complete this onslaught of "sweet soul music" that will melt your socks off! You need therapy and you had better go get some!

7 - WHOARFROST

Genre: Psychedelic Rock/ Fusion Grunge Art Metal/ Freakjams
Location: Baltimore, MD
Website: www.myspace.com/whoarfrost

Bio: "This trio of tantric troubadours will completely lobotomize you" - The Dalai Lama. What do you get when you mix jungle/ drum n' bass with the guitar stylings of John Mclaughlin, (The Awesome Fusion Guitar player, not the other one that sucks...) the intensity of Pantera, the form of Zappa and the creativity of Mozart? The answer is obviously Whoarfrost. This group began while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2006. They have been conquering the wasteland one butterfly at a time ever since. "This is some heavy shit" - Chong from Cheech and Chong. "These guys will honestly blow your fucking minds." - God.

I remember being at one of their bombastic performances in Boston circa 2006-2007. Rocking in a packed hot and sweaty basement, Whoarfrost had several old tvs behind them displaying various kinds of hardcore porn. The audience's faces melted to the pure mercury infused samurai sword slicing of Jon Lipscomb's guitar. The heart pounding energy of the drums and the bass created lush spheres of prog-metal-rock-funk that brought apocalyptic doom to the soul. In other words, it was one of the dopest crunkfests I have ever personally attended. Their music is gargantuan especially when you take into account that there are only three members. After living in Amherst for a couple years the group has relocated to Baltimore, MD where they continue to slay maggot infested demons on sound wave battlefields with their amorphous orgy of devastation. Their new album is soon to be released in Feb. 2011 so get with the program and buy it now even though you can't yet! Smell the Devil's Breath!!

6 - Katie Martin

Genre: Katie Martin/ Freakjams
Location: Auburn, AL
Website: www.myspace.com/katiemartinband

Bio: Guitar virtuoso and mind-bending songwriter, Katie Martin is an integral part of the underground music scene here in the south land. Katie's songs are her own, thus she conjures up her own genre. Trying to fit her music into a genre would be like hopelessly trying to force a moon shaped block through a diamond shaped block hole in that toy that you used to play with when you were a kid with various shaped blocks and block holes. Like if you were trying to put Tom Waits into a category of music. You can't do it and if you try you fail! Some people just don't get it, but those people don't have a clue.

She rocks your face off and then transfers to her own rap-like style all the while hitting you with mind blowing guitar licks. Based out of Auburn, AL she performs throughout the lands and upon the hillsides and may grace your nearest village if you're lucky. Her voice cuts through the air like a hot knife thru butter but can suddenly change to a whisper and then explode like a hydrogen powered hot air balloon into the night sky. Like Bob Dylan's music, you may have to listen a few times through to get all the juicy tidbits. Katie is a real badass and you may occasionally hear her with her badass friend Marie Robertson. Katie and Marie together form the mystic supergroup and Freakjams fave "Hey, Alligator!" Check out her myspace page and you will feel like you are at a live show! Even if you are stuck in North Korea you may be able to sneak a peek at her jams and experience the freedom that is Katie Martin.

5 - bananamananimal

Genre: Power- Pop/ Rock/ Religious
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Website: www.myspace.com/bananamananimal

Bio: This power pop rock trio slangs chunky guitar solos and ear candied hooks over thunderous rhythms and syncopated bass lines. Beautiful melodious passages accompany lava flows of rock and sex pop synth. bananamananimal crushes the opposition and stands out as a delicious flavor nugget amongst the distasteful aimless whiny wanderings of other pop/ indie bands. Switching time signatures and strong dynamic contrast are just a few cards up their sleeves. Check out their myspace for a glimpse of their masterworks.

Based out of Brooklyn, New York bananamananimal formed in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music around the 2006-2007 time period. Unfortunately I'm not sure if they are still performing live, however their music remains timeless. Although all of their songs are forever chiseled into the encyclopedic monument of 21st century art, these tracks are a must listen: "Toys", "Obsolete" and "Bright Blue". Their aural wisdom rains down upon many earths like crystalline snowflakes of radiance.

Constantly in the studio compiling masterpiece after masterpiece; i'm talking day and night, 24/7, 365 days a year. If this group took a break for one millisecond, the earth as we know it would spin out of control and slip into the Black Hole at the center of our galaxy! They wield an arsenal of musical instruments as well as hold a stable of musicians and artists that explore vast, uncharted, magical territories of sound and space. They have a musical manifest destiny that will destroy any preconceived notions of art or design.

1 - Pu$$ycat Pimpz (P.C.P.)

Genre: Hip Hop/ Rap/ Street Funk
Location: Boston, MA
Website: www.myspace.com/pcptillidie

P.C.P.

Bio: Our first artist profile is dedicated to the nefarious, infamous, Boston based Hip-Hop group, The Pu$$ycat Pimpz. What can I say, or rather not say about these guys? This group is currently in hibernation, taking an extended hiatus after their sold out shows at large stadiums and arenas in the Northeast. Their music can be described as "Genius" - The Washington Post, for their lyrical mastery and "breathtaking majesty of form and skill" - DJ Tray Boner mix 96.7. The height of these guys career was between 2004-2007, when most of their hits were recorded. Songs like, "Is This a Barn?"; "Sex on My Love" and "Time To Get Krunk!" were all recorded around that time.

The group began in 2004 with MC Shang, MC Crimelord, and MC Sikky D recording their first single in their college dorm. Wanting to stay underground, the three MC's worked hard to make sure their Hot Fire spread slowly and under control. Soon the crew expanded to just under twenty members with the likes of The Victorious U.D.A., MC Squibs, MC Nusty AKA The Wolfmang, MC Nista - The Sinista Sista, Professor Pax, Dr. Domes, Ramses, L.I.F.E. Control, MC Planet, Titus of Gaul, Black Tongue, Slaughter Beast, Dr. Light, MC Stones and others... There agility is unmatched on the mike. Now with seven complete albums (none of them are currently commercially available) they remain originators true to their art form. Look out for the P.C.P. reunion coming in the next light-year for your dome!

Welcome to Freakjams!!
